Dental implants are titanium "anchors" that replace the natural roots of teeth that are missing. A wonderful alternative to some traditional dental treatment like bridges. The first step is to determine if your current dental needs would lend itself to the option of an implant or implants. Once this is determined, a consultation with the oral surgeon or perhaps a periodontitis is needed. Dr. Bauer will work directly with the surgeon to coordinate your treatment. The treatment is generally a three-part process and can take up to 6 months. The first step is to place the implant in the jaw. The implant will be covered up during the healing process, which will take several months. Then the implant will then be uncovered so that Dr. Bauer can then take impressions, and the crown or tooth can be made and attached. Today's implants are a wonderful way to avoid having removable appliances or involving healthy teeth to anchor bridges. Dr. Bauer will be glad to discuss if dental implants are right for you.
